Dave started the Animals team in 1984 as a player/manager and sponsor, he enjoyed playing and managing, occasionally putting on Tournaments and umpiring in them. He was lucky enough to have a core group of guys early with the Senior Animals Teams, winning many tournaments.
He has been part of the Animals winning the World Masters Championships in 2001, 2005, 2015 & 2020. From 1998-2018 winning 22 National and Regional Championships, in USSSA, SSUSA, SCMSA, CCMS NSA, NCSSA and the World Senior Games, (8 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze medals). He is a Charter member or the Animals Hall of Fame.
He enjoys playing and coaching and has been blessed to play with the enthusiasm and camaraderie of good friends, he also has been blessed to play with the Legends, Enforcers, Who and “Roadkill”. He is thankful for this honor and will always be grateful to be able to still play the game that he loves.
Steve Gibson, “Gibby”, has been playing softball locally since high school. He started playing and managing competitive in fast pitch and slow pitch when he was 30. He said he started losing his hair about the same time he started managing teams, common to many managers.
He started his senior career with the Animals and has several World, State and Major Championships with the Animals, MTC and Valley Fog. He has won Championship’s, Gold Medals and All Tourney Awards in SSUSA, SPA, NSA, USSSA, NCSSA and the World Senior Games. Gibby is also a member of the Animals Hall of Fame.
He currently plays for Valley Fog and is an Umpire in NCSSA and SSUSA. He is also a Board member, Commissioner and Umpire in the Stanislaus Senior Softball Association. Gibby is a true fan of softball, especially the camaraderie of his friends and players.
Sam Scott began playing in the NCSSA when he turned 50 in 2004. He started playing for the Bay Area Blasters. After leaving the Blasters he played for ODB, Mountain Mikes Pizza and the Viejitos. After a car accident left him unable to play in 2010, he became the head coach of the Viejitos.
In 2017 he was elected to the NCSSA Board of Directors and has served on the Disciplinary and Hall of Fame committees and assisted on many different projects and committees. In 2018 he became the Master of Ceremonies at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He has been an active board member since 2017 and has never missed a meeting. Sam really misses playing but his contributions to the Viejitos and NCSSA Board of Directors cannot be overlooked. Sam is a dedicated “softball player” and is proud to be an integral part of this Association.
Gary started in 1990 with NCSSA and was involved until 2018, he played with State Roofing Systems and won the 70 AAA World Championships in 2011. He was 1st team All-Tourney twice.
Gary supported NCSSA for many years behind the scenes assisting with functions within the Association as a manager and player. Gary sponsored teams for many years and was also an Umpire in the Hayward Tournaments.
From 1990 until 2016, Gary managed and coached the Diablos, San Jose Royals, State Roofing and Chiefs.
