To all Club members,
Senior softball has lost one of its more engaging and fun players with the death of Rey Ray Garcia, 85, on December 7, 2024. Although Rey was only an occasional member of the Club in years when he was playing on a sponsored tournament team, he played on so many teams that he was known by many in the senior softball world. He had 6 rings on his fingers to prove it! Ray was a left-handed batter who had good power to left field as well as to right (much to the surprise of teams that were new to the local tournament scene). He was a fast runner, a student of softball, a reliable first baseman, an eager substitute runner for others, and a decent outfielder in a pinch. He was good-natured, liked to laugh, and was always ready to play if someone needed a substitute for a tournament. Most of his recreational playing was in the East Bay until he moved up to Roseville a few years ago. Everyone liked Rey and he will be missed.
You are all invited to a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, February 18, at the Blue Goose Event Center in Loomis, 2550 Taylor Road, 95650. The celebration starts at 11:00 and it is a Mexican lunch, finishing in mid-afternoon. If you plan to be there, phone his daughter, Susanne, 510-432-8121, who is organizing the event and needs a head count. It is a casual dress affair and wearing a tournament jersey is welcome. You can also let Ray Johnson, the co-captain of Rey’s current tournament team, the Jaguars, know by phoning him at 510-886-6697. I’ll be there in Loomis.
