Bob Elwood passed away on Father’s Day, June 16, at the age of 88. Bob was an early pioneer in senior softball and played on many respected teams. A long-term teammate of his said that back in the day, when Bob Elwood, Dave Reck, Al Fiori, and Jimmy Theisen were playing together, they were the fastest team in the tournament arena!
Bob was not only a good softball player for many years, but an active supporter of the sport. He served for many years on the Northern California Senior Softball Board of Directors, was the Redwood City Señors Softball Club liaison with Redwood City, and was an active leader in the Club.
He played until a year ago, when illness robbed him of his abilities. He had already successfully battled lung cancer about 10 years ago, and was able to pass away peacefully at home. His wife, Helen, and his family, had a private funeral service and later a luncheon hosted by the family for invited old friends. Bob is fondly remembered by many.
