Senior Softball Blues

As you are about to see, I have some time on my hands these days as do most of you, I suspect. I was going to put it to music, but I can’t sing so well.

I’ve got the Senior Softball Blues
Day after day with not much to do
Oh, how I’m waiting to hear the good news
That I can finally shed these Senior Softball Blues

No more singles and no doubles, too
No more popups or double plays
No more bad calls by the umpiring crew
No more tailgate parties at the end of the day

There aren’t any sports on the dang TV
I just can’t watch another “Happy Days”
No NBA, NFL or MLB
I just sit here staring at the screen in a haze

They said to wear a mask when you go outside
And always wear gloves before you touch something
But I just can’t seem to decide
How a catcher’s mask and mitt can prevent anything

My car’s full of gas, but I’ve got nowhere to go
I think it’s turning into rust in the driveway
I never, ever thought that I’d miss Sacramento
Or hearing country music on the highway

Man, I miss laughing in the dugout
And telling tall stories to my teammates
I even miss those excuses for a strikeout
And complaining all day about the heat wave

I miss Lodi and Manteca and Folsom, too
I long to get those innings on the clock
I miss those cramped and noisy hotel rooms
And God, I even miss………………Turlock

I’ve got the Senior Softball Blues
Day after day with not much to do
Oh, I just can’t wait to hear the good news
That I can finally shed these Senior Softball Blues

Stay safe, everyone,
